The Slope-Hettinger Soil Conservation District (SCD) recently hosted two conservation input meetings in Mott and New England, aimed at gathering feedback from local community members on conservation priorities. These meetings were part of an effort to involve the community in identifying key resource concerns and potential areas for educational outreach and district services.
Kerstan Cole, the manager of Slope-Hettinger SCD, organized the sessions, emphasizing the need for local input in shaping future conservation efforts. Hannah Nordby, Area V Program Coordinator, facilitated the discussions, encouraging participants to voice their thoughts and concerns.
Representatives from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), including Ryan Pietrzyk, NRCS Soil Conservationist, and Darrin Olin, NRCS District Conservationist, attended the meetings to offer support. “These sessions provided great input,” said Olin. “It’s encouraging to see the district revisit the locally led conservation process to shape its future efforts.”
The meetings highlighted the crucial role of collaboration among Soil Conservation Districts, NRCS, and local stakeholders in addressing conservation challenges. By incorporating local feedback, the SCD aims to strengthen its conservation strategies and enhance the effectiveness of its efforts in the region. These meetings also reinforced the importance of community engagement in ensuring that conservation programs align with the specific needs and concerns of local residents.
