The North Dakota State University (NDSU) Department of Plant Sciences will host a fruit, vegetable, and woody plant field day on Thursday, August 14, 2025. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. at the NDSU Horticulture Research Farm and Arboretum near Amenia and Absaraka, North Dakota.
This annual field day welcomes farmers, gardeners, researchers, and community members to explore the latest horticulture research from NDSU’s Plant Sciences department.
The event will feature presentations on many research topics. These include caterpillar tunnel grape production and high tunnel grafted tomatoes, methods designed to help growers extend the growing season and protect crops.
Attendees will also learn about new apple varieties that are great for eating fresh or making hard cider. Organic weed control methods will be discussed, offering natural options for managing unwanted plants in gardens and fields.
Other presentations will cover alternative fertilizer options for bell peppers and grapes, as well as allium companion planting techniques that help reduce the spread of Fusarium, a harmful plant disease.
