North Dakota Sugarbeet Harvest Begins



For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 6% very short, 34% short, 58% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 4% very short, 29% short, 65% adequate, and 2% surplus.

Soybean condition rated 0% very poor, 5% poor, 38% fair, 45% good, and 12% excellent. Soybeans setting pods was 95%, equal to both last year and the five-year average. Dropping leaves was 4%, behind 22% last year and 17% average.

Spring wheat condition rated 0% very poor, 1% poor, 23% fair, 60% good, and 16% excellent. Spring wheat coloring was 97%, near 100% both last year and average. Mature was 78%, well behind 98% last year, and behind 95% average. Harvested was 34%, well behind 82% last year and 66% average.

Durum wheat condition rated 0% very poor, 1% poor, 18% fair, 62% good, and 19% excellent. Durum wheat coloring was 93%, behind 100% last year and 99% average. Mature was 63%, well behind 98% last year and 89% average. Harvested was 31%, well behind 72% last year, and behind 50% average.

Winter wheat harvested was 98%, near 97% last year, and ahead of 91% average.

Corn condition rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 28% fair, 50% good, and 16% excellent. Corn dough was 77%, behind 87% last year, and equal to average. Dented was 18%, well behind 42% last year, and behind 28% average.

Canola condition rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 28% fair, 56% good, and 14% excellent. Canola coloring was 92%, near 96% both last year and average. Harvested was 20%, behind 35% last year and 33% average.

Sugarbeet condition rated 5% very poor, 3% poor, 30% fair, 47% good, and 15% excellent. Sugarbeets harvested was 1%, near 2% last year and 4% average.

Oats condition rated 0% very poor, 1% poor, 21% fair, 69% good, and 9% excellent. Oats coloring was 96%, near 100% last year and 99% average. Mature was 85%, behind 96% last year and 94% average. Harvested was 49%, well behind 76% last year and 72% average.

Barley condition rated 0% very poor, 1% poor, 29% fair, 58% good, and 12% excellent. Barley mature was 90%, behind 98% last year and 97% average. Harvested was 48%, well behind 86% last year and 77% average.

Dry edible peas dropping leaves was 89%, behind 100% last year and 99% average. Harvested was 58%, well behind 88% last year and 85% average.

Sunflower condition rated 0% very poor, 3% poor, 23% fair, 65% good, and 9% excellent. Sunflowers ray flowers dry was 35%, well behind 56% last year, and behind 51% average.Bracts turned yellow was 15%, behind 23% last year and 21% average.

Flaxseed condition rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 21% fair, 74% good, and 3% excellent. Flaxseed coloring was 80%, well behind 100% last year, and behind 96% average. Harvested was 25%, well behind 56% last year, and behind 36% average.

Dry edible bean condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 38% fair, 48% good, and 9% excellent. Dry edible beans setting pods was 97%, near 98% last year, and equal to average. Dropping leaves was 22%, well behind 67% last year and 56% average. Harvested was 1%, near 5% last year, and behind 6% average.

Alfalfa condition rated 0% very poor, 4% poor, 30% fair, 55% good, and 11% excellent. Alfalfa second cutting was 95%, ahead of 85% last year and 89% average.

Lentils harvested was 37%, well behind 72% last year, and behind 48% average. Pasture and range conditions rated 1% very poor, 6% poor, 31% fair, 56% good, and 6% excellent.
