North Dakota State University will host an agronomy-focused field day at the Dickinson Research Extension Center on July 9, 2026, in Dickinson, North Dakota. The event begins at 4 p.m. MDT and includes a meal followed by several educational sessions for farmers, homeowners, families, and young people.
The field day is designed to share current research findings and practical information that can help improve agricultural production and community engagement. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from university specialists, researchers, and Extension professionals.
“This field day offers something for all the North Dakotans we serve,” said Chris Augustin, director of the center. “From groundbreaking agronomy research updates and horticulture insights for homeowners to STEM activities for our future, the Dickinson Research Extension Center will provide valuable learning opportunities for all who attend.”
Following the meal, attendees can take part in three different programs: an agronomy tour, a horticulture tour, and a 4-H youth event.
The agronomy tour will cover several important crop production topics. Presentations include increasing corn profits through proper seeding rates, soil amendments for corn production, cover crop management strategies, herbicide-resistant weed control, and lentil production research. These sessions will be led by NDSU researchers and specialists including Claire Keene, Kayla Ehlis, Sudip Chhetri, Alexis Correira, Brian Jenks, and Krishna Katuwal.
The horticulture tour will provide useful information for gardeners and homeowners. Topics include creating pollinator gardens and growing fruit crops successfully in North Dakota. Presenters include Emily How and Elizabeth Krause.
Youth attending the event can participate in STEM-based learning activities organized through 4-H. The program will also include a hands-on root beer making activity led by Marilyn Larsen.
