The North Dakota Corn Utilization Council election schedule for Districts 3 and 4 is now set, with spring elections planned for eligible corn producers, according to information released by the North Dakota Corn Utilization Council. The elections help ensure producer representation in decisions guiding the use of corn checkoff dollars statewide.
Organized in 1991, the North Dakota Corn Utilization Council uses corn checkoff funds as outlined in state law. Corn is assessed at one-quarter of one percent of the value of each bushel sold. These funds are forwarded to the states treasurer, and the Council determines how the dollars are invested on behalf of North Dakota corn producers.
Checkoff funds may only be used for research, education, market development, and promotion. Through these investments, the corn checkoff supports new and expanded markets for corn while working to improve profitability and long-term opportunities for producers. The Council also invests in research that helps farmers increase productivity and remain good stewards of the land.
The NDCUC board consists of seven members representing seven districts across North Dakota. Elections will be held this spring in Districts 3 and 4. District 3 includes counties across north central and northeastern North Dakota, while District 4 includes counties in the central and southeastern part of the state.
The District 3 election will be held on March 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. CT and will take place via Zoom. The District 4 election will be held on March 11 at 1:00 p.m. CT at the Eddy County Extension Office in New Rockford or via Zoom.
County representatives are elected by their peers and may serve up to two consecutive four-year terms. Those elected this spring will begin their terms on April 1 following the election. Representatives completing their terms include Tysen Rosenau of Carrington and William Wagner of Neche, who have both served since 2018.
Carson Klosterman, Chairman of the North Dakota Corn Utilization Council, encourages producer involvement.
“Serving on the Council is an opportunity to help guide investments that directly impact corn demand, research, and market development for producers across the state,” said Klosterman. “We are grateful for the service of those completing their terms and look forward to welcoming new voices from Districts 3 and 4.”
Producers interested in serving are encouraged to contact their county Extension agent or the NDCUC office at 701-566-9322.
