North Dakota Hosts Farm Safety Sessions

North Dakota Hosts Farm Safety Sessions

By Scout Nelson

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture and the North Dakota Agriculture Association will be hosting a series of anhydrous ammonia safety training sessions across the state. These sessions are designed to help agricultural workers understand safe handling practices and meet required state safety standards.

“Annual documented safety training is required for any person handling, transferring, transporting or otherwise working with anhydrous ammonia at storage facilities,” said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring. “These training sessions will meet the requirements of the state and attendees will be issued a certificate of completion.”

The training sessions will include important information about the chemical properties and health hazards of anhydrous ammonia. Participants will also learn about facility and nurse tank care, inspection procedures, and regular maintenance practices. In addition, the sessions will provide updates on current regulations and safety requirements that affect agricultural operations.

Several locations across North Dakota will host the training events to make participation easier for workers from different regions. Sessions are scheduled in Dickinson, Minot, Valley City, and Devils Lake during March. Times vary depending on the location, allowing flexibility for attendees.

The cost to attend is $35, and organizers encourage pre-registration. For more information, please visit. Participants who complete the training will receive a certificate confirming they meet annual safety training requirements. This documentation supports safe work practices and helps maintain compliance with state guidelines. To register, please contact the North Dakota Agriculture Association at 701-282-9432 or email at jessicarust@ndag.org.

Anhydrous ammonia remains an important product used in agriculture, especially as a fertilizer. Because it can be dangerous if handled incorrectly, regular safety training plays a key role in protecting workers and facilities. These sessions provide practical guidance to help reduce risks and promote safe working environments.

By offering clear instruction and updated safety information, North Dakota agriculture organizations continue supporting responsible for chemical handling and safer farm operations. The training helps workers gain confidence and knowledge while preparing for the upcoming agricultural season.
