Farm and Ranch Safety Course in Minot

Farm and Ranch Safety Course in Minot

By Scout Nelson

Ward County will host a Farm and Ranch Safety Course designed to help farmers, ranchers, and agricultural workers improve safety knowledge and emergency response skills. The free training event will take place at the NDSU North Central Research Extension Center located at 5400 Highway 83 South in Minot, North Dakota. The program is sponsored by ND Farmers Union Ward County in partnership with NDSU Extension.

The course focuses on practical safety education that supports daily farm and ranch operations. Participants will learn about grain bin safety, which is important for preventing accidents during grain handling and storage activities. The training also includes basic first aid information to help participants respond quickly and safely during emergencies.

A key part of the event is that Stop the Bleed training will be provided by faculty from the NDSU School of Nursing. Stop the Bleed is a nationally recognized 90-minute certification program that teaches participants how to identify life-threatening bleeding and respond effectively. The hands-on training allows participants to practice using a tourniquet and understand how to control blood loss during an injury. This skill is valuable for rural areas where immediate medical help may not always be available.

The safety course will take place on Thursday, March 5, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Central Time. Dinner will be provided for participants, making the event convenient for farmers and ranchers attending after daily work activities. Registration is required so organizers can prepare meals and provide training materials. Participants are asked to select the correct Ward County session when completing registration.

Event organizers also encourage individuals needing accommodations related to disability to contact the event coordinator, Paige Brummund at, paige.f.brummund@ndsu.edu or call 701-857-6444, at least two weeks before the event. This ensures that all participants have access to training and learning opportunities.

Overall, the Farm and Ranch Safety Course will provide valuable education for agricultural communities. By combining grain bin safety, first aid learning, and Stop the Bleed certification, the program helps improve preparedness, reduce risks, and support safer farm and ranch environments across North Dakota.
