N.D. Calving 33 Percent Complete; Lambing at 50 Percent



For the week ending Sunday, topsoil moisture supplies rated 22% very short, 22% short, 54% adequate, and 2% surplus, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 26% very short, 29% short, 44% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 1% very poor, 19% poor, 51% fair, 27% good, and 2% excellent.

Cattle and calf conditions rated 2% very poor, 8% poor, 30% fair, 55% good, and 5% excellent. Cattle and calf death loss rated 2% heavy, 60% average, and 38% light. Calving progress was 33% complete, near 34% last year and 32% for the five-year average.

Sheep and lamb conditions rated 0% very poor, 4% poor, 27% fair, 63% good, and 6% excellent. Sheep and lamb death loss rated 1% heavy, 50% average, and 49% light. Lambing progress was 50% complete, behind 56% last year and near 54% average. Shearing progress was 71% complete, near 72% last year.

Hay and roughage supplies rated 28% very short, 36% short, 36% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Stock water supplies rated 19% very short, 29% short, 51% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Weekly reports will begin April 4 for the 2022 season.
