Fedorchak Hosts Ranchers to Boost Beef Market

Fedorchak Hosts Ranchers to Boost Beef Market

By Scout Nelson

Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak recently hosted a roundtable discussion at Black Leg Ranch near McKenzie, North Dakota, bringing together ranchers, beef market experts, and agricultural leaders to address the growing demand for American beef.

During the meeting, Fedorchak praised North Dakota ranchers for their resilience and innovation in facing challenges like droughts, high production costs, and uncertain markets. She emphasized that local producers are ready to meet the nation’s beef needs if given the right support and fair, consistent policies.

The conversation followed national concerns about reports of potential beef imports from Argentina, which could affect market stability. Participants voiced that domestic producers are capable of increasing herd sizes and meeting U.S. demand, provided they receive stable market signals and protection against lower-quality imports.

They also stressed the need to uphold strict quality and safety standards for any imported beef to prevent diseases and maintain consumer trust.

Ranchers proposed practical solutions such as enhancing import inspections, enforcing clear labeling, and improving working lands programs to strengthen domestic production. They also discussed addressing workforce shortages and the impact of the government shutdown on H1-B visa programs, which are essential for agricultural labor.

Congresswoman Fedorchak shared that she and seven House Republicans recently sent a letter to President Trump seeking clarification on his administration’s beef import plans. They urged the federal government to prioritize American ranchers in fulfilling domestic demand under an America-First agenda.

The roundtable featured prominent North Dakota ranchers and experts, including Jerry Doan and Jay Doan of Black Leg Ranch, Julie Schaff Ellingson of Ellingson Angus Ranch, and Larry Schnell, a beef market expert. The discussion highlighted a shared commitment to supporting the beef industry’s growth while ensuring fair competition for U.S. producers.
