The U.S. Department of Education has announced more than $950,000 in funding to support education programs in North Dakota. This investment aims to improve learning opportunities for Native American students and strengthen professional development programs for future educators.
A total of $956,506 will be distributed among schools and universities across the state. Of this, $658,478 is allocated under the Demonstration Grants for Indian Children Program, which focuses on enhancing academic success for Native American children in preschool through high school.
Two schools will benefit directly from this program. Turtle Mountain will receive $364,016, while the Devils Lake Public School District will receive $294,462.
These grants support the creation and testing of innovative educational services that help students succeed academically while preserving cultural identity.
In addition, the University of North Dakota (UND) will receive $298,028 through the Indian Education Professional Development Grant. This funding supports training programs that prepare Native students to become qualified teachers and school administrators.
It also helps participants pursue careers in education, particularly those serving Native American communities.
Federal officials emphasized that the goal of these programs is to expand educational access, improve achievement, and promote long-term community growth through education.
By funding these initiatives, the Department of Education continues its commitment to advancing equity and cultural inclusion in schools across the nation.
This investment marks another step toward ensuring that Native American students have the resources and support needed to thrive in both academic and professional settings.
The awarded funds will help schools and universities continue developing programs that empower future generations of leaders and educators in North Dakota.
