The North Star Classic Livestock Judging Contest will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. CT in the main arena of the North Dakota Winter Show Building, located at 700 7th St SE, Valley City, ND.
This annual event offers young livestock enthusiasts an opportunity to showcase their judging skills, deepen their agricultural knowledge, and connect with others in the field.
The contest is open to participants in two divisions — Junior (ages 7–12) and Senior (ages 13–18) — with 4-H and FFA members competing together in both categories. The entry fee is $25 per individual or $75 per team, making it an accessible event for youth across the state who wish to develop their livestock evaluation abilities.
Registration for the contest must be completed online through the Showman App by December 3, 2025. Early registration is encouraged, as space may be limited. The event is organized in conjunction with the NDSU Livestock Judging Team, which plays a vital role in supporting and mentoring young participants.
This competition aims to help students build confidence, improve decision-making skills, and learn to evaluate livestock based on structure, condition, and quality. Livestock judging provides a foundation for leadership, teamwork, and agricultural literacy—values that are central to 4-H and FFA programs.

The North Star Classic continues to be a highlight in North Dakota’s agricultural calendar, encouraging youth to celebrate learning, livestock, and leadership in a competitive yet friendly environment.
