Goehring Announces North Dakota's APUC Funding Awards



Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring announced North Dakota Agricultural Products Utilization Commission (APUC) awards for nine projects. The awards totaling $1,065,422.75 were approved at the APUC quarterly meeting in Wahpeton.

APUC is a program of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture that administers grant programs for research and development of new and expanded uses for North Dakota agricultural products which support the development of concepts and products that support our rural communities and agriculture operations. The grants can be used for basic and applied research, marketing and utilization, farm diversification, nature-based agritourism, prototype and technology and technical assistance.

The following received approval:

  • ND Flax Works LLC was awarded $150,000 to market their hemp bedding and cold milled flax feed supplement.
  • Vertical Malt was awarded $250,000 to expand capacity through the deployment of drum style malting vessels.
  • Hearthside LLC was awarded $84,500 to facilitate an architecture and construction plan for a state-of-the-art winery in Oakes.
  • Memories of Home by Becky LLC was awarded $42,033.75 to expand their commercial kitchen.
  • UND Department of Mechanical Engineering was awarded $56,089 to develop biomass based integrated structures using hemp, flax, sunflower and/or corn-based products.
  • Chapul Farms was awarded $197,500 to complete engineering and design and an environmental assessment of an insect agriculture facility.
  • NDSU Coatings and Polymeric Materials was awarded $60,000 to develop acid-sensitive nanoparticles encapsulating anti-fungal components.
  • Pearsons Green Acre Meats was awarded $75,600 for marketing efforts for a new state inspected meat processor in Wilton.
  • SafetySpect Inc. was awarded $149,700 to develop a multimode imaging system for drones for use in agricultural applications based on its proprietary multimode imaging technology and edge computing.

APUC will hold its next grant application hearing on Feb. 16 in the Bismarck-Mandan area. Applications for the February meeting must be received by Jan. 1.
