First- through third-grade teachers in North Dakota are invited to apply for worm soil conservation kits, offered by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture and the North Dakota Ag in the Classroom Program. These kits give students a hands-on opportunity to explore the role of worms in soil health and plant growth.
“I encourage educators to take advantage of this opportunity to embed agriculture into their classrooms,” Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said. “Teachers and students will get insight into the world of worms and learn about the vital role they play in keeping soil healthy.”
Each kit includes a worm farm, a related book, and age-appropriate lesson plans from the National Ag in the Classroom Matrix, all designed to teach the importance of soil health. Educators have until April 1, 2026, to integrate the kit and lessons into their classroom activities, with follow-up surveys distributed in late April 2026.
The number of kits is limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with one kit available per classroom. Applications must be submitted by November 14, 2025, at https://www.ndda.nd.gov/AITCresources.
For questions regarding the application, contact Agriculture Business Development Coordinator Heather Lang at hlang@nd.gov or 701-328-2308 / 701-595-9120.
