The North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension will host its annual Soil Water Workshop on January 21, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST at the FargoDome in Fargo, North Dakota
This one-day event provides both in-person and virtual attendance options, catering to producers, agronomists, consultants, and industry professionals interested in soil and water management.
The workshop offers an in-depth look at the latest research, practices, and innovations in soil fertility, water management, and sustainable agriculture.
Brady Goettl, NDSU Extension soil science specialist and event organizer, emphasizes that the workshop is an excellent opportunity to stay updated on advancements in soil, water, and fertilizer management specific to North Dakota.
The day begins with registration at 7:30 a.m., followed by sessions covering the North Dakota Soil Resource, 2026 soil fertility outlook, and strategies for improving collaboration between farmers and advisors.
Attendees will also explore practical topics such as cation exchange capacity (CEC), cover cropping, nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus management in barley, and safety and stress management in agriculture.
After lunch, presentations will include soil test correlation and calibration, new insights on sulfur and nitrogen sources, long-term research on soil health, impacts of tile drainage on water quality, and the hidden dynamics of the B horizon. Poster sessions and breaks are scheduled throughout the day to facilitate discussion and networking.
