The North Central Food Safety Extension Network is offering a free webinar series for food entrepreneurs. These webinars are designed to help individuals in the food industry navigate food safety practices and trends. They will cover topics like food preparation, freeze-drying, and sourdough starters, all crucial for entrepreneurs looking to sell food products safely.
Julie Garden-Robinson, NDSU professor, emphasizes how social media and farmers markets have encouraged home chefs to start selling their creations. However, safety is essential, and these webinars will offer valuable guidance. The webinars will run from 11 a.m. to noon.
The first session, "Best Practices for Food Entrepreneurs," will take place on Jan. 28. This session will be led by Garden-Robinson and Karen Blakeslee, an Extension associate. They will discuss how entrepreneurs can follow the best practices for food safety.
The second webinar, titled "Freeze Drying Foods: Science, Safety, and Cottage Industry," will take place on Feb. 4. Experts in food processing will explain how freeze-drying works, its safety aspects, and how to use it as part of a food business.
The final webinar on Feb. 11, "Sourdough Starters: Care, Safety, and Preservation," will be presented by Caitlin Clark, a food scientist. This session will focus on the basics of sourdough, its benefits, and how to prepare and preserve it safely.
These webinars are free and open to anyone interested in learning about food safety. The North Central Food Safety Extension Network aims to help entrepreneurs grow their food businesses safely and successfully.
