Farmers Learn Safe Pesticide Use Online

Farmers Learn Safe Pesticide Use Online

By Scout Nelson

The NDSU Extension Pesticide Program is hosting an online Private General Pesticide Training session to help farmers and land managers obtain or renew their pesticide certification. The training takes place on March 16, 2026, and runs online through the Zoom platform.

This training event helps participants understand how to safely handle and apply pesticides while meeting certification requirements. Proper pesticide training is important for protecting crops, the environment, and human health.

The online session begins with registration at 1:00 PM, followed by the official training program starting at 1:30 PM. The course continues until 4:30 PM, giving participants several hours of instruction and learning opportunities.

During the training, participants will learn important information about pesticide safety, application methods, storage, and legal responsibilities. These topics help ensure pesticides are used correctly and responsibly on farms and other agricultural areas.

The program is designed mainly for private pesticide applicators, including farmers, ranchers, and agricultural land managers who apply pesticides to their own property. Training is required for those seeking new certification as well as those renewing an existing license.

Participants must register for the event in advance. Those paying by cash or check for pre-registration should mail payment to the NDSU Extension Office McLean County, PO BOX 1108, Washburn, ND 58577. When sending payment, participants should clearly write the training date and location and make checks payable to the NDSU Extension Pesticide Program.

The event is organized by the McLean County Extension Office, which works with the NDSU Extension Pesticide Program to provide education and certification opportunities for agricultural producers.

For additional information about the training or registration process, participants can contact Kenzie West at the McLean County Extension Office. She can be reached by email at mckenzie.west@ndsu.edu or by phone at 701.462.9903.

Individuals who require special accommodations because of a disability are encouraged to contact the event organizer. Requests should be made at least two weeks before the event, so proper arrangements can be prepared.

Online training programs like this help farmers stay updated on pesticide regulations and safety practices. By completing certification training, agricultural producers can protect crops while also promoting responsible and safe pesticide use.
