The 10th class of Rural Leadership North Dakota (RLND) at North Dakota State University, comprising 16 participants from various regions of the state, recently commenced their 2023-2025 leadership development program in Bismarck. The orientation seminar served as an introductory platform, emphasizing networking, knowledge enhancement, and a collective mission.
During their visit to Cloverdale Food, the class gained insights into workforce challenges and leadership strategies, complemented by a comprehensive facility tour and discussions with the company's executives. The group also explored rural development initiatives with the North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives and toured the innovative Lineworker Training Center.
A highlight of the seminar was the visit to Menoken Farm, hosted by RLND alum Darrell Oswald, where participants engaged in a soil health demonstration and explored conservation leadership.
Katie Tyler, NDSU Extension specialist and RLND director, highlighted the focus of the participants in developing self-awareness skills and initiating plans for their personal community leadership projects. Emphasizing the value of the program, she stated, “RLND is an outstanding experience that allows participants to gain personal skills, learn about industry, and establish a network of leaders across our state.”
The orientation seminar's success was supported by sponsors such as Ag Country Farm Credit Services, Touchstone Energy Cooperative, and the RLND Alumni Association.
The names of Class X members were announced in September and can be found at ndsu.ag/RLND-class10. This program marks a significant step in nurturing leadership skills and fostering community development in North Dakota.
