North Dakota State University (NDSU) is set to host its annual field tour at the Agronomy Seed Farm in Casselton, North Dakota, on July 17. This informative event promises to delve into a range of crucial topics, including wheat, soybeans, crop diseases and pests, and weed management.
Farmers, producers, and curious visitors can join the tour, starting at 5 p.m. in the farm shop, to engage with NDSU research and Extension specialists, who will be sharing their expertise and answering questions.
The field tour, led by Brian Otteson, will explore various topics, including North Dakota winter wheat varieties, small grain crop production, and Fusarium Head Blight resistance. Clair Keene, an NDSU Extension agronomist, will discuss winter wheat varieties, while Carrie Miranda, a soybean breeder, will provide updates on varieties and research.
Jan Knodel, an NDSU Extension entomologist, and Pat Beauzay will discuss insect pest updates. Andrew Green, a hard red spring wheat breeder, will share insights on hard red spring wheat. Andrew Friskop, a small-grains plant pathologist, will discuss small-grain and corn disease research. Sam Markell will focus on soybean diseases. Joseph Ikley and Kirk Howatt will present weed control updates.
Leon Schumacher, the NDSU Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering department chair, will engage attendees in a discussion on the Internet of Things (IoT) and its applications in farming operations. Chad Anderson, the executive director of the North Dakota Crop Improvement and Seed Association (NDCISA), will provide an update on NDCISA varieties.
The field tour will conclude with a delicious meal catered by NDSU's Carnivore Catering, providing an opportunity for networking and further discussions.
