Join free suicide prevention webinars for the farming community

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension announces free, informative webinars focused on suicide prevention within the agricultural sector. These 90-minute sessions, part of the Question-Persuade-Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention program, are scheduled for February 6th and March 5th, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. CST.

The webinars aim to address the significant stress and mental health challenges prevalent in agriculture-related occupations.

Research highlights a higher suicide rate among those in the agricultural field. The QPR training is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify signs of a mental health crisis or suicidal thoughts and respond supportively.

Sean Brotherson, a family science specialist at NDSU Extension, emphasizes the importance of addressing the ongoing stress experienced by those in farming and ranching. NDSU Extension agents Katie Henry and Madeleine Smith will facilitate these essential webinars.

While primarily aimed at individuals associated with agriculture, the webinars are open to all interested parties. Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the sessions are free of charge. Each webinar has a capacity of 30 participants, encouraging early registration to secure a spot. For more information and to register, visit ndsu.ag/qpr-training.

For further inquiries or additional details, Adriana Drusini and Sean Brotherson at NDSU Extension are available at adriana.drusini@ndsu.edu and sean.brotherson@ndsu.edu, respectively.
