The NDSU Langdon Research Extension Center (LREC) will hold its annual field day on Thursday, July 24, starting at 8:30 a.m., with a noon meal sponsored by the Northern Canola Growers Association (NCGA). This event will offer valuable learning for farmers, ag students, and crop advisors.
The field day will feature disease and insect updates focused on the 2025 canola crop and other field crops grown in northeast North Dakota. Visitors will also see new soil health research projects at LREC and explore the NDSU Extension Soil Health Express trailer, a mobile educational tool for promoting better soil care.
A range of NDSU Extension experts will speak on different agricultural topics, including:
- Soybean management – presented by Ana Carcedo, Extension broadleaf crops specialist
- Soil management projects – presented by Naeem Kalwar, Extension soil health specialist
- Proper grain storage – shared by Kenneth Hellevang, former Extension agricultural engineer
- LREC capital projects update – presented by Randy Mehlhoff, LREC director
- Small grains disease update – led by Andrew Friskop, Extension plant pathologist
- Resistant weed concerns – covered by Lahni Stachler, Extension agent from Cavalier County
- Canola disease update – given by Venkat Chapara, LREC plant pathologist
- Insect issues on canola and other crops – presented by Anitha Chirumamilla, Extension cropping systems specialist
- New wheat variety performance – shared by Claire Keene and Rutendo Nyamusamba, Extension small grains agronomists
