Global lamb market outlook - unlocking opportunities in 2024

By Scout Nelson

The University of Minnesota Extension and North Dakota State University Extension have teamed up to host a pivotal webinar on International Lamb Trade and Economics. Scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. CST, this event promises to shed light on the intricacies of lamb trade and its burgeoning prospects.

Keynote speakers Jessica Spreitzer and Courtney Heller, from the U.S. Meat Export Federation, will dissect the 2023 international lamb trade scenario and forecast the opportunities awaiting in 2024. Their expertise in trade analysis and export services will offer invaluable insights into the U.S. red meat industry's global footprint.

Travis Hoffman, a respected sheep specialist with NDSU and UMN Extension, emphasizes the potential for growth in U.S. lamb consumption, currently at 1.2 pounds per person annually. He underlines the global nature of the lamb market and its significant impact on local producers.

Brenda Miller, a livestock educator with UMN Extension, invites participants to understand the global influences on local sheep farming operations. The session is tailored for farmers, ranchers, 4-H members, agriculture business professionals, and those with an interest in sheep or goat farming.

Pre-registration is essential for this event. Interested individuals can sign up at ndsu.ag/lambtrade to receive the Zoom link and, subsequently, the recorded session via email. This webinar is a must-attend for anyone keen on understanding the global dynamics shaping the future of the lamb industry.
