Bednarski Named for Farm Credit Board Role

By Jamie Martin

Carl Bednarski, a Michigan farmer and former leader of the state Farm Bureau, has been nominated to serve on the Farm Credit Administration board. His appointment is pending a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing expected later this summer.

The FCA plays an important role in supervising the Farm Credit System, which provides financial services to farmers across the country. It also oversees Farmer Mac, which helps create loan opportunities for agricultural and rural communities.

Bednarski farms with his family near Caro, Michigan, producing a wide range of crops. As a third-generation farmer, he brings hands-on experience and a strong understanding of agricultural needs.

“Given the current farm economy, it’s an opportunity to continue serving agriculture, while having an impact on regulatory policy affecting ag lending,” Bednarski said.

He continued, “As economic conditions continue to evolve, farmer access to financing from reliable institutions within the Farm Credit System that comprehend the evolving needs of production agriculture is essential — particularly for our young famers.”

Throughout his career, he has taken on leadership positions at both the state and national levels. He served as Michigan Farm Bureau president and later joined the American Farm Bureau Federation board. His contributions total more than two decades of service.

He also supported agricultural advancement through research investments at Michigan State University, helping develop key facilities for livestock and plant science.

Bednarski shared that the nomination process was detailed and lasted over a year. He said he is honored and sees the opportunity as a way to support agriculture through policy and financial oversight.

Leaders such as Ben LaCross and Zippy Duvall have recognized his strong leadership skills and deep knowledge of farming.

“During my tenure on the MFB board, Carl always brought a practical point of view of what was in the best interest of farmers first and foremost, but he was also a visionary agricultural leader,” said LaCross.

He continued, “As a farmer with first-hand experience of the challenges and opportunities facing agriculture, combined with his ability to listen to concerns of producers, Carl has earned tremendous respect and credibility as an agricultural leader."

“Carl’s strong leadership abilities and knowledge of the financial world will serve Farm Credit well,” said Duvall. “Equally important, as a lifelong farmer, Carl will bring a passion for ensuring farmers continue to be well-served by the Farm Credit Administration.”

They say his perspective will help ensure farmers continue to receive reliable financial support during challenging economic times.
