Tanker Truck Spill Reported in Dickey County
North Dakota Ag Connection - 10/08/2018
The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) has been notified of a tanker truck rollover in Dickey County. The tanker is owned by L & B Transport, LLC. The incident occurred about 5 miles southeast of Oakes on Oct. 4, and it was reported the same
The tanker was carrying approximately 5,000 gallons of soil fumigant, a type of pesticide. At this time, it does not appear that any of the fumigant was released; however, diesel fuel and motor oil were released from the engine. Initial estimates indicate about 100
gallons of diesel fuel and motor oil spilled into a flooded road ditch.
High water levels from recent heavy rainfall have connected the road ditch to a wetland. Booms have been deployed, and the impacts appear to be contained to the road ditch. Approximately 3,800 gallons of the soil fumigant have been recovered from the
tanker. Due to the position of the tanker, the remaining fumigant will be recovered once the tanker has been up-righted.
Personnel from the NDDoH and Dickey County Emergency Management are investigating and will continue to monitor the recovery and remediation.
