North Dakota's Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee met during a public meeting last week in the North Dakota Workforce Safety and Insurance conference room in Bismarck.
On Jan. 6, Gov. Doug Burgum issued an executive order creating the Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee. The committee will advise on the distribution of funds received under settlement agreements between opioid manufacturers and the state. The committee will also make recommendations on how the money should be used to help combat opioid abuse. This is the first of at least four public meetings to be held this year.
Representatives from the North Dakota Attorney General's Office gave presentation on the opioid settlement funds including allowable uses and the purpose of the advisory committee. North Dakota Health and Human Services Behavioral Health Executive Director Pamela Sagness led a discussion on creating an engagement strategy and current legislative actions related to opioids.
The committee consists of six voting members appointed by the governor and a non-voting chairperson designated by the governor, with equal representation from state and local governments. To learn more about the advisory committee, visit the North Dakota Boards and Commissions website.
