On June 4th, 2024, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm CDT, the Central Cass School District STEM Center located at 802 N 5th St in Casselton, ND, will host a crucial training event. This event is a collaboration between NDSU Extension and FirstLink, designed to equip participants with crucial skills in Mental Health First Aid, particularly beneficial to those in or supporting the agricultural sector.

Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based training program that teaches participants how to identify and address mental health and substance use issues. The training includes learning to recognize the signs of mental health distress, such as depression, substance misuse, or suicidal thoughts, and provides strategies for effective listening, support, and referral to professional help.

This 8-hour training requires 30 minutes of self-study prior to attending the in-person session and is limited to 30 participants. The program is particularly relevant for individuals dealing with stress related to agricultural work or supporting someone in the agricultural industry. Participants will learn practical skills that can help improve the mental health and well-being of community members.

Registration for this event is free, thanks to funding from the ND Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Center grant (USDA-NIFA). Participants are encouraged to register early to secure a place. CEUs are available for those who complete the training.

To register or for more information, please visit the official registration page. Confirmation and additional details will be communicated via email to those who have registered. This training is a great opportunity for those looking to positively impact their community by enhancing their ability to support mental and emotional health.
