Fingal Research Field Day Highlights

Fingal Research Field Day Highlights

By Scout Nelson

The Fingal Research Plot Field Day is scheduled for August 14, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. CST. This informative event will be held 11 miles south of Interstate 94 at the Peak exit (#296) or 6 miles west of Fingal. Farmers, agronomy students, and crop enthusiasts are invited to attend this learning opportunity, followed by a community brunch.

The event will focus on corn hybrid trials and cover crop plots, offering valuable information for producers planning their next planting season. It is a great chance for attendees to see firsthand how different corn varieties perform in field conditions and explore various cover crop options.

The speaker lineup includes experienced experts from North Dakota State University’s Carrington Research Extension Center. Kristin Simons, a research agronomist, will present a “Variety Overview” of the corn hybrids tested at the site. Ezra Aberle, an agronomy research specialist, will discuss “Prevent Plant Cover Crop Mixes,” sharing insights on using cover crops effectively in challenging planting conditions.

Andrew Friskop, associate professor and plant pathologist, will highlight the emerging threat of “Tar Spot in Corn,” helping producers understand disease risks and management strategies.

ADM is the official sponsor of this field day, supporting agricultural education and community events like this one.

For more information or special accommodations, contact Alicia Harstad at alicia.harstad@ndsu.edu or call 701-845-8528. Requests related to disabilities should be made at least two weeks before the event.

This field day provides a valuable platform for learning, sharing knowledge, and networking within the farming community while promoting effective crop management practices.
