The Marketing Assistance for Specialty Crops (MASC) program is a vital initiative providing financial assistance to U.S. specialty crop producers. Running from December 10, 2024, to January 8, 2025, this program aims to help producers overcome the unique marketing challenges associated with specialty crops such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and nursery crops.
Eligible for the program are producers and entities like corporations, partnerships, and Indian Tribes who engage in the cultivation of commercially marketed specialty crops.
Applicants must meet specific financial thresholds and compliance requirements, including an average adjusted gross income of less than $900,000 for the past three years, with at least 75% of that income derived from agricultural activities.
The financial support covers expenses related to the perishability of crops, specialized handling and transport equipment, and enhanced packaging needs.
This assistance is crucial for ensuring that specialty crops reach the market in optimal condition, thereby supporting the viability of these agricultural businesses.
To apply or learn more about eligibility and the application process, producers can visit the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service’s specialty crop definition webpage.
This program not only supports the economic stability of specialty crop farmers but also encourages the sustainable cultivation and marketing of diverse agricultural products.
