NDSU Equine Center Hosts Family Event

NDSU Equine Center Hosts Family Event

By Scout Nelson

On November 23, the NDSU Equine Center was bustling with excitement as the Department of Animal Sciences held its annual 'Moos, Ewes, and More' event. This family-friendly occasion offered community members an up-close experience with various farm animals and a chance to learn about agricultural sciences.

The event was free to the public and drew an impressive crowd of over 900 attendees this year. Each visitor was greeted with a drawstring bag and an activity passport, which they filled with handouts and prizes collected from various activity stations throughout the day.

Participants had the opportunity to meet and learn about the swine, sheep, horses, and dairy cows residing at NDSU. The farm managers responsible for the care of these animals, along with faculty and staff from the Department of Animal Sciences, hosted interactive booths.

These booths included a range of fun and educational activities such as "ask a veterinarian," animal facemasks crafting, "surgery" on stuffed animals, wagon rides, feed identification games, and demonstrations showing the inside of a cow’s rumen.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, Santa Claus made a special appearance from the North Pole, engaging with children and taking note of their Christmas wishes toprepare for his upcoming holiday journey.

The 'Moos, Ewes, and More' event not only provided entertainment and education but also showcased the cohesive efforts of NDSU’s faculty, staff, and graduate students in promoting agricultural awareness and community engagement in North Dakota.

As the year comes to a close, the NDSU Department of Animal Sciences extends heartfelt holiday wishes to all and invites the community to participate in their upcoming events in the new year. This event is a testament to NDSU's commitment to educational outreach and community involvement in the field of animal sciences.
