CDFA seeks inspectors for produce safety program

CDFA seeks inspectors for produce safety program

By Scout Nelson

The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), through its Produce Safety Program (PSP), is currently seeking passionate individuals to fill the role of produce inspectors. These positions are crucial in helping farmers understand and comply with the Produce Safety Rule, as mandated under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

Under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist in the PSP, the new hires will be responsible for conducting on-farm assessments and inspections. These activities are essential to maintaining high standards of food safety and ensuring public health. The role involves a significant amount of interaction with farmers to educate and guide them on implementing effective food safety practices.

Inspectors will be commissioned and credentialed by the FDA, equipped to handle both current and future environmental issues related to food safety. Their main task will be to ensure that farms meet the PSR standards through effective on-farm training and communication strategies. A prioritized inspectional approach will be used to manage and conduct specific inspections across the state.

The focus of this recruitment is particularly on the Central Coast Region of California, encompassing counties such as Contra Costa, Alameda, and Santa Clara, among others. However, the role may require travel to other locations throughout the state as needed.

This position not only offers a chance to work in a dynamic field of food safety and agriculture but also provides an opportunity to make a significant impact on the quality and safety of produce grown in California.

If you are skilled in training and communication and have a background in food safety, consider applying for this vital role with the CDFA. Help us ensure that agricultural practices meet the highest safety standards and contribute to the health and wellbeing of consumers across the state. Apply today and join a team dedicated to advancing agricultural safety and compliance.
