North Dakota State University Extension is preparing to offer educational resources and exhibits at the Big Iron Farm and Construction Show in West Fargo from Sept. 15 to 17. The event gives farmers, ranchers, and visitors an opportunity to learn about important agricultural and rural topics.
NDSU Extension personnel will be located at the east end of the Hartl Ag Building. Extension agents and specialists will also be available to answer questions about crop production, livestock, farm safety, and other rural issues.
“NDSU Extension has had a longstanding presence at Big Iron, and we are happy to be present at the show again this year," said Rob Proulx, NDSU Extension ag technology, and grain systems specialist. “Please stop by to view the displays, ask questions, provide input, or simply to visit – all are welcome.”
Agricultural safety will be an important part of the exhibit. Visitors can learn about grain entrapment and see proper rescue procedures. A tug-of-war activity will demonstrate how difficult it can be to remove someone trapped in grain. Other safety information will also be available.
Rural stress and mental health resources will help farmers and ranchers learn ways to manage the pressures connected with agricultural work. Specialists will be available to discuss helpful resources and practical ways to handle stress.
Visitors can also see live samples of important weed species and learn how to identify them correctly.
Another exhibit focuses on data centers in North Dakota. NDSU Extension will provide its “Data Centers: A Guide to Common Questions” publication and a video covering existing, planned and developing data centers. The resources help communities have informed and respectful discussions about development.
Leadership programs, including Rural Leadership North Dakota, Lead Local, and Community Impressions, will also be featured.
NDSU student groups will be added to the event. The Bison Pullers will display their one-fourth-scale tractor, while the Bison Antique Tractor Club will showcase restored antique tractors. The 2026 Bison Pullers entry placed among the top 15 in an international collegiate competition.
