North Dakota State University (NDSU) Hettinger Research Extension Center (HREC) is set to celebrate a significant milestone with the opening of their new livestock facilities.
The community is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 9 at 3 p.m. Mountain time, marking a historic investment in agricultural research and development.
Following the ceremony, the HREC will host a series of field tours, beginning with corn, soybean, and pea herbicide trials at 4 p.m. These tours will provide a firsthand look at cutting-edge agricultural practices and offer a chance to engage with leading NDSU Extension specialists and researchers.
This year's field tour will feature insightful presentations from several NDSU experts, including:
- Jose Montoro Bais on a spring wheat management study.
- Joe Ikley providing a weed management update.
- Caleb Dalley on weed-control research at the HREC.
- Andrew Friskop discussing small grain diseases and wheat scab research.
- Andrew Green and Richard Horsley will introduce new varieties of spring wheat and barley, respectively.
- John Rickertsen will cover durum varieties and other ongoing agronomy trials.
Rickertsen, an HREC agronomist, invites everyone to "Come and see the new livestock buildings, which are the single biggest investment in facilities in our 115-year history." He also encourages guests to join the agronomy tour to learn about new varieties and practices critical to current crop production.
The event concludes with a supper sponsored by local businesses, celebrating the community and ongoing agricultural innovation. All activities are free of charge, making it a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in the future of farming and livestock management.
