North Dakota’s crop progress for the week ending November 24, 2024, highlights important agricultural trends. The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service reported 3.6 days suitable for fieldwork.
Moisture Levels
Topsoil moisture was rated 14% very short, 34% short, 50% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture conditions were 16% very short, 34% short, 48% adequate, and 2% surplus, reflecting challenges and opportunities for farmers.
Winter Wheat Conditions
Winter wheat conditions showed diverse results. Ratings included 4% very poor, 22% poor, 25% fair, 39% good, and 10% excellent, indicating varied performance across the state.
Sunflower Harvest Progress
The sunflower harvest reached 91%, outpacing the 79% recorded last year and surpassing the five-year average of 81%, showcasing a strong performance for this crop.
Pasture and Range Conditions
Pasture and range conditions were rated 18% very poor, 30% poor, 26% fair, 26% good, and 0% excellent, highlighting ongoing challenges in maintaining land quality.
Stock Water Supplies
Stock water supplies showed 16% very short, 28% short, 54% adequate, and 2% surplus, providing a stable resource for livestock with some areas needing improvement.
This report concludes the weekly updates for the 2024 growing season. Monthly reports will resume from December to March, with the first update scheduled for January 6, 2025. Weekly updates for the 2025 season will begin in April.
