The American Agricultural Law Association (AALA) introduced its new president-elect, Ashley Ellixson of Arizona, along with board directors Chelsea Good of Kansas and Kale Van Bruggen of Minnesota. These leaders began their terms during AALA’s annual educational symposium, held November 7–9, 2024, in Memphis, Tennessee. They join current president Brandon Davis of Louisiana, immediate past president Jake Parker of North Carolina, and returning board members representing various states across the U.S.
Ashley Ellixson, a recognized expert in agriculture law and business strategy, has extensive experience in the dairy industry, having held leadership roles such as Chief Commercial Officer at the United Dairymen of Arizona. Her contributions include building a global commodity trading team and advancing sustainability initiatives.
With a legal and business background, including an LL.M. in Agricultural and Food Law, Ellixson is committed to fostering innovation and collaboration in agriculture. “I am honored to be president-elect of the AALA,” said Ellixson. “I look forward to collaborating with the board and our members to continue to strengthen our community, serve its needs, and ensure its long-term success.”
Kale Van Bruggen, a lawyer at Rinke Noonan Law Firm in Minnesota, specializes in agriculture, water, and environmental law. He represents farmers, counties, and districts on water management and conservation issues.
“The AALA plays a crucial role in shaping and advancing legal guidance and expertise that has a direct impact to the food and agricultural community,” said Van Bruggen. “It is an honor to be elected by the members to the AALA board of directors. I am looking forward to continuing the AALA’s mission of remaining the premier association for agricultural law and policy professionals.”
Chelsea Good, an attorney and lobbyist, serves as Vice President of Government and Industry Affairs at the Livestock Marketing Association. Her advocacy has led to significant updates in livestock legislation, enhancing protections for sellers. A graduate of Washburn University School of Law, Good is also active in cattle farming and agriculture consulting. “From the first time I stepped foot at the AALA symposium, it was immediately clear the group excels not just in proving quality continuing education but in creating connection amongst agriculture attorneys and policy professionals,” said Good. “I’m excited and honored to serve on the board.”
The AALA continues to be a premier organization for legal professionals in agriculture, promoting education, policy development, and collaboration within the industry. These new leaders aim to further strengthen the association’s impact and support its members.
