Six professionals from North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension were honoured for their exceptional contributions at the 2024 National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals conference in Boise, Idaho.
The awards recognize the dedication and impact these individuals have on the 4-H community, fostering youth development, education, and leadership.
The Achievement in Service Award acknowledges those with three to seven years in service. Sara Clemens was recognized for her leadership in 4-H outdoor education, camps, and shooting sports. Kelly Leo was celebrated for expanding programs in her county, particularly in STEM and agriculture, and enhancing club participation through initiatives like farm safety and the Bread Fair.
The Distinguished Service Award honours professionals with over seven years of service. Emily Burkett was recognized for her innovation in STEM and agriculture programs, including co-coaching a national champion Horse Quiz Bowl team. Lynnette Vachal earned praise for her mentorship and fostering youth engagement in shooting sports and Achievement Days.
The Meritorious Service Award highlights individuals with more than 15 years of service and significant leadership roles. Penny Nester, president of the North Dakota Association of Extension 4-H Youth Workers, was recognized for enhancing communication and mentoring agents statewide.
The 25 Years of Service Award honours those with over 25 years of dedicated service. Cindy Olson, with 30-plus years of contribution, was celebrated for her kindness, work ethic, and long-standing involvement in shooting sports.
These awards reflect NDSU Extension’s commitment to supporting 4-H programs and fostering growth, education, and leadership among youth across North Dakota.
