NDSU offers health-focused nourish classes

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension is offering the Nourish program in winter 2025, both online and in-person, to support physical well-being and promote healthy lifestyles. The program is free and designed for adults aged 50 and older in rural North Dakota, though anyone is welcome to participate.

“Good health is important for enjoying a high quality of life and for maintaining independence in later life,” says NDSU professor and project co-director. “This program offers the tools to help us enhance our overall well-being.”

The Nourish program focuses on nutrition, physical activity, and accurate health information. Participants will learn strategies to improve their overall health through better eating habits and increased physical activity.

Program Highlights

The Nourish Series 2 will include topics such as:

  • Well-being and accurate health information
  • Cooking and healthy recipes
  • Physical fitness and muscle health
  • The immune system, medications, and even pets’ impact on well-being

Participants can choose between two learning formats:

Online Modules: Self-paced courses beginning January 8

In-Person Classes: Held weekly, following county schedules, and including hands-on activities and discussions

Prizes and certificates will be awarded to those completing at least six of the seven classes or online modules. In-person attendees will also receive helpful materials like handouts and recipes.

Registration for the program is open until February 11. More details and in-person class locations can be found at www.ag.ndsu.edu/nourish.

The Nourish program is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Health and Safety Education program. Additionally, participants can sign up for a free monthly Nourish newsletter and access updates via NDSU Extension Facebook pages.

This initiative provides valuable tools to help adults improve their health, stay active, and enjoy a better quality of life.
