North Dakota is set to transform its commercial drone landscape with a significant $11 million legislative appropriation. This funding aims to integrate the state's unmanned aerial systems into Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airspace, promising to revolutionize various sectors including agriculture and emergency services.
This integration involves the Northern Plains UAS Test Site's Vantis radar platform and the FAA's Pathfinder radar program. This collaboration will enable secure data exchanges, enhancing operations beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS). The expansion will increase coverage from 3,000 to 56,000 square miles, significantly broadening the scope for commercial drone use.
Commercial drones in North Dakota are poised to see expanded applications from agricultural spraying and surveying to power and pipeline monitoring.
