Get ready for a deep dive into crop pest management at the Fargodome, Fargo, North Dakota, on February 27 and 28. North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension and the Department of Plant Pathology are rolling out their 2024 Crop Pest Identification and Management School, aimed at equipping new crop scouts with crucial knowledge.
This event, previously known as the Eastern Crop and Pest Management School, covers disease, insect identification, and herbicide symptomology across a variety of crops including wheat, barley, corn, soybeans, dry beans, canola, and sunflower.
It's a hands-on experience that blends traditional teaching with interactive sessions, ensuring attendees get practical skills for the field.
Andrew Friskop, a plant pathologist with NDSU Extension, highlights the program's focus on addressing pests on a crop-by-crop basis. The goal is to enhance attendees' ability to spot and deal with pest issues effectively.
Undergraduates at NDSU can even snag classroom credit by joining the school and acing a final exam on the last day. Plus, Certified Crop Advisers attending can earn up to 9.5 continuing education units (CEUs).
