McKenzie County recently kicked off its very first Farm and Ranch Show at the Ag Expo facility, introducing "Bull Days" as a highlight. This event provided a platform for producers to exhibit their livestock, drawing attention from across northwest North Dakota and northeastern Montana despite challenging weather conditions.
The show featured an array of bulls and heifers, giving attendees the chance to view and inquire about various breeds. It serves as an essential pre-sales opportunity, allowing ranchers to make an impression on potential buyers before the bustling sales period begins.
At the event, producers from Missouri River Red Angus in Watford City highlighted the significance of creating a memorable experience for visitors to encourage future sales. A representative from Smith Longhorns in Killdeer displayed their cattle, demonstrating their adaptability to the local environment and utilizing online platforms for sales to reach a wider audience.
A rancher with Pleasant Valley Angus from Sidney also participated, showcasing black Angus bulls before their first production sale scheduled for April. This participant stressed the long-standing method of selling directly to buyers, focusing on the provision of well-fed, robust bulls to meet customer needs effectively.
With the cattle market in a strong position, producers at the event expressed optimism about their upcoming sales. The McKenzie County Farm and Ranch Show has not only provided a valuable pre-sale showcase but also a promising start to what could become a cherished annual tradition in the local agricultural community.
