Rural Leadership North Dakota Class IX Meets in Bismarck
North Dakota Ag Connection - 12/02/2021

Members of the North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension's Rural Leadership North Dakota (RLND) Class IX (2021-23) gathered in Bismarck to resume the class seminars.

"The 20 participants, who began their RLND experience in 2019 were excited to be together again to focus on leadership practices," says Katie Tyler, NDSU Extension specialist and RLND program director. "Thursday included a discussion on what the class learned or experienced about leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic."

Thursday afternoon concluded with the group reviewing Emotional Intelligence with Kathy Tweeten, NDSU Extension specialist emeritus. RLND Alumni joined Class IX for dinner in Bismarck to network and informally discuss projects.

"Friday morning included a review of the Leadership Challenge book by Kouzes and Posner, and the five practices discussed in the book which are the foundation for the RLND leadership philosophy," says Tyler. "Those five practices are model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act and encourage the heart."

Members of the RLND Alumni Association joined the class to discuss the class projects and provide guidance, ideas and explained the new grant application for community projects available for current and past participants of the RLND program.

RLND is a program of NDSU Extension. The RLND Mission is to "Prepare and develop effective leaders to strengthen rural North Dakota."
