Brad Thykeson has been appointed as the new State Executive Director (SED) for the United States Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) in North Dakota. This appointment was announced by the Trump Administration and became effective on June 2, 2025.
Thykeson is no stranger to this role. He previously served as FSA’s State Director during President Trump’s first term. With a strong background in farming and leadership, he brings experience and commitment to the position.
Brad and his wife, Karla, are third-generation farmers. They grow corn, soybeans, wheat, and edible beans in Steele, Barnes, and Traill counties, working alongside their two sons and extended family. This hands-on experience gives Thykeson a clear understanding of the needs and challenges faced by local farmers.
Thykeson will lead the delivery of several important FSA programs to agricultural producers across North Dakota. These include programs related to commodities, conservation, farm loans, and disaster relief. These services are designed to support a steady and secure supply of food, fiber, and fuel for all Americans.
The FSA plays a major role in supporting rural communities and helping farmers manage risk, recover from natural disasters, and maintain long-term sustainability. Thykeson’s leadership is expected to help ensure that these programs run smoothly and serve local needs effectively.
