Free microgreens kits for North Dakota young learners
North Dakota Ag Connection - 02/23/2024

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture is inviting teachers of grades 1 through 4 to apply for microgreens kits, aiming to integrate this unique STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning experience into their curriculum.

Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring highlighted the initiative's goal to educate students on plant growth and the culinary uses of microgreens, thereby fostering an appreciation for agriculture from a young age.

Interested educators can find more information and submit their applications online by visiting the North Dakota Department of Agriculture's website. The deadline for electronic application submissions is set for March 7, 2024, with notifications to successful applicants to follow by March 11.

It's important to note that teachers who previously received a hydroponic tower garden grant are not eligible for this opportunity.

For any questions, teachers can reach out to Local Foods Marketing Specialist Katrina Hanenberg at 701-328-2659. The Department has set a deadline of May 1, 2024, for the utilization of the kits in classrooms, after which educators are expected to have completed the educational sessions with their students.

This program not only brings an interactive and engaging learning experience to young students but also emphasizes the importance of agriculture and sustainable practices in North Dakota.
