According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), there were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending September 8, 2024. Topsoil moisture levels were reported at 6% very short, 20% short, 67% adequate, and 7% surplus, while subsoil moisture levels were 6% very short, 17% short, 70% adequate, and 7% surplus.
Field Crops Report:
Soybean conditions were rated as 2% very poor, 6% poor, 30% fair, 55% good, and 7% excellent. Soybeans setting pods were recorded at 94%, which is behind both last year’s 99% and the five-year average. Dropping leaves was at 15%, significantly lower than last year’s 40% and the average of 37%.
Spring wheat maturity was reported at 95%, close to 99% last year, and 98% average. Harvested wheat was at 79%, in line with 77% last year. Durum wheat maturity was 98%, ahead of the 93% average, and 77% was harvested, above last year's 63% and the 67% average.
Corn condition was 2% very poor, 7% poor, 24% fair, 57% good, and 10% excellent. Corn dough stage reached 73%, lagging behind last year’s 94% and the 93% average, while dented corn was only at 34%, lower than last year’s 63% and the 53% average. Mature corn was reported at 3%, below the 5% last year and 8% average.
For sugarbeets, conditions were rated as 1% very poor, 2% poor, 4% fair, 16% good, and 77% excellent. Harvest progress was at 9%, close to last year’s 8%.
