Thomas Shephard, representing the future of agriculture in Crystal, North Dakota, clinched victory at the NDFB Young Farmer and Rancher Discussion Meet. The event, part of the Farm and Ranch Conference in Fargo recently, highlighted Shephard's exceptional ability to articulate and exchange ideas on pressing agricultural issues.
Alongside finalists Chance Lundberg, Mia Severson, and Madison Bodine, Shephard stood out with his insightful discussions, securing a $4,000 prize and the opportunity to represent at the American Farm Bureau Federation 2025 Discussion Meet in San Antonio, Texas.
Shephard, along with his wife Samantha, manages a versatile farming operation that includes crops such as potatoes, corn, soybeans, wheat, and edible beans. Their commitment to agriculture extends beyond the field, as they also juggle the responsibilities of parenting two children.
The NDFB's Director of Organizational Development, Joey Bailey, praised the finalists for their comprehensive understanding and proposed solutions to complex water management issues in agriculture, emphasizing the Farm Bureau's role in fostering long-term solutions for the agricultural community.
