Russ Danielson, a distinguished member of the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) for 36 years, was recently celebrated with the Top Hand Award at the association's annual convention in Bismarck, N.D. This award acknowledges his longstanding commitment and significant contributions to the beef industry.
Danielson’s agricultural roots trace back to a family farm in Barnes County, founded by his grandfather in 1884. His passion for agriculture was nurtured at North Dakota State University (NDSU), where he majored in animal husbandry.
After completing his education, Danielson embarked on a prolific career at NDSU, initially as a beef herdsman and later as an associate professor in the Animal Science Department.
Renowned for his educational contributions, Danielson advised over a thousand students and was instrumental in establishing NDSU’s purebred Simmental herd. His commitment to agricultural education was further demonstrated through his involvement in NDSU’s Judging Club and Saddle & Sirloin Club, as well as overseeing the Little International stock show for several decades.
Beyond academia, Danielson continues to influence the beef industry through his work with the American Simmental Association and various beef industry organizations. His efforts in initiating the Junior Beef Expo have provided invaluable opportunities for youth involvement in agriculture.
Russ Danielson’s legacy is marked not only by his dedication to enhancing the educational landscape of agriculture but also by his efforts to sustain the growth and development of the beef industry in North Dakota and beyond.
