River Safety Update During Bridge Project

River Safety Update During Bridge Project

By Scout Nelson

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department and the North Dakota Department of Water Resources announce a temporary navigation change along the Missouri River near the BNSF railroad bridge project in the Bismarck-Mandan area. This update supports ongoing construction work and helps maintain safety for boaters and workers.

During this period, the navigation channel through the construction zone will be reduced and partially restricted due to the movement and installation of large steel beams. These activities require careful control of river traffic to prevent accidents and ensure safe working conditions.

The restriction is expected to occur during morning hours from 7:30 a.m. to noon on selected days, including April 28 and 30. During these times, access through the marked channel may be limited or temporarily unavailable.

To assist boaters, the project manager will have two boats on-site. These support boats will help guide and assist boaters through the construction area when the main navigation channel is not open for use. This service helps maintain safe movement along the river even during restricted periods.

Boaters are advised to stay alert and follow all posted instructions while traveling near the construction zone. Observing safety signs, markers, and guidance from on-site staff will help reduce risks and ensure safe passage.

Temporary navigation changes are common during large construction projects. They help protect both the public and construction crews while allowing important infrastructure work to continue efficiently. Cooperation from the boating community plays an important role in maintaining safety during these times.
