The State Board of Animal Health will hold a meeting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, in the North Dakota Department of Agriculture’s 6th floor conference room at the State Capitol. Interested individuals can obtain call-in information by contacting Michelle Mielke at 701-328-2233 before the meeting.
The meeting’s agenda includes critical discussions on animal disease traceability, zoonotic diseases, and updates from organizations such as the ND Game and Fish Department, USDA-APHIS, and the NDSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Key disease updates will focus on high-path avian influenza, anthrax, and bovine tuberculosis, alongside discussions on metapneumovirus vaccine and farmed elk.
Additionally, the board will address regulations for electronic tagging, tuberculosis requirements for dairy cattle, and nontraditional livestock management. Representatives from public health and veterinary services will present field investigation reports and fiscal updates.
Several upcoming events and training sessions were also announced, including the ND Dairy Convention and the Livestock Summit in January 2025. These events aim to enhance knowledge and collaboration within North Dakota’s agricultural community.
Certain agenda items may be discussed in executive sessions, and the agenda order is subject to change at the President's discretion. Breaks will be scheduled as necessary.
The meeting is an essential platform for sharing insights, updates, and regulatory developments, ensuring North Dakota’s livestock and public health sectors remain informed and proactive. Public participation is encouraged for a collaborative approach to addressing animal health issues.
