Governor Kelly Armstrong made a pivotal change to the North Dakota Military Commission's leadership through a newly signed executive order. This order revises the commission's chairmanship, previously held by the lieutenant governor, enabling Armstrong to appoint a member of his own staff as the chair.
The move comes as Armstrong announced his intention to appoint Alan Dohrmann, the Governor’s Office Chief Operating Officer, as the new chair. Dohrmann, a seasoned military veteran, retired in July after a distinguished 40-year career in the military, including over nine years as adjutant general of the North Dakota National Guard.
This strategic appointment is designed to leverage Dohrmann’s extensive military experience and leadership skills to enhance the effectiveness and strategic oversight of the Military Commission. The Commission, which comprises 11 members, plays a crucial role in shaping military policies and initiatives within the state.
The executive order reflects Governor Armstrong's commitment to strengthening military leadership and ensuring that the commission's objectives align closely with state and national security goals. This change is expected to bring a fresh perspective and renewed focus to the commission's work, potentially leading to more robust and effective military policies and support frameworks.
The North Dakota Military Commission is instrumental in advising and supporting military operations and collaborations within the state. With Dohrmann at the helm, the commission is poised to tackle upcoming challenges with renewed vigor and strategic acumen, continuing its vital role in supporting and enhancing the state's military readiness and capabilities.
