North Dakota State University Extension announces its annual crop management field school, scheduled for Friday, June 28, at the Carrington Research Extension Center. Starting at 9 a.m., this event is tailored for crop advisers and farmers eager to enhance their expertise in crop and soil management.
Greg Endres, an Extension agronomy specialist at the center, highlights the program’s immediate applicability to the ongoing crop season and its benefits for future agricultural practices. The day's sessions are packed with practical, hands-on learning opportunities, including:
- Weed Identification: Participants will explore around 60 live weed exhibits, understanding weed biology and control strategies.
- Herbicide Site-of-Action: By examining symptoms on crops and weeds, attendees will learn to identify various herbicide classes.
- Small Grain Diseases: This session covers the identification and management of foliar and head diseases in small grains.
- Soil Management: A practical guide to diagnosing crop nutrient deficiencies will be provided.
The event requires pre-registration and is open to the first 50 applicants, ensuring an intimate and focused educational experience. Attendees will receive valuable reference materials, refreshments, and a meal at noon.
Certified crop advisers attending the field school will earn four continuing education units in crop pest and soil management. This field school is an excellent opportunity for agricultural professionals to gather essential insights and skills for effective crop management.
