North Dakota State University (NDSU) is gearing up for its 2024 Best of the Best in Wheat Research and Marketing meeting, set to take place in Minot, North Dakota, at the Grand Hotel on January 31. Starting at 8:30 a.m. Central Time, the program promises a day filled with valuable sessions aimed at wheat producers.
Participants can expect to delve into critical topics such as wheat variety selection, enhancing durum quality through in-season nitrogen application, and the latest on scab fungicide. Key discussions will also address current insect pest challenges in wheat, updated wheat fertility recommendations, and strategies to tackle herbicide-resistant weeds.
Clair Keene, NDSU Extension small grain and corn agronomist, emphasizes the importance of the program in providing the latest strategies for wheat crop management. The meeting also includes interactive breakout sessions for more personalized learning experiences.
Highlighting a pressing concern in weed management, Brian Jenks, a weed scientist, will discuss the growing issue of herbicide resistance in common grass weeds and kochia, shedding light on the challenges posed by resistance to multiple herbicide groups.
Frayne Olson, Extension crops marketing specialist, will wrap up the agenda with insights into the factors currently influencing grain prices, offering valuable guidance for growers as they formulate their marketing strategies for the year.
The event also provides an opportunity for attendees to earn Certified Crop Advisor Continuing Education Units in various categories, including nutrient management and pest management.
