NDSU Extension Hosts Grant Writing Workshop

NDSU Extension Hosts Grant Writing Workshop

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota State University Extension will host a grant writing workshop designed to help agricultural producers and community organizations learn how to secure funding for projects. The workshop, titled “Beginner’s Guide to Grant Writing”, will take place in Devils Lake, North Dakota.

The training will be held in two sessions on April 14 and April 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST at the Chautauqua Gallery at Lake Region State College. The interactive program is open to participants of all experience levels, including beginners who want to understand how the grant process works.

The workshop is especially useful for agricultural producers and people who work or volunteer with nonprofit groups, educational organizations, community clubs, and local government departments. These groups often rely on grants to fund new projects and programs that benefit their communities.

During the workshop, participants will learn how to develop strong ideas for grant proposals and how to identify funding sources that support their projects. The program will also explain the important steps involved in proposal development, submission, and review. By understanding these steps, participants can improve their chances of receiving funding.

“Grants can be a powerful tool for bringing new projects and opportunities to our communities,” says Sara Laite, NDSU Extension family and community wellness agent in Ramsey County. “This workshop will help participants understand the process and leave with the foundation of a proposal they can submit.”

The two-part structure of the workshop allows participants to build their proposals step by step. On April 14, participants will arrive with a project idea and leave with a completed proposal outline along with helpful resources to develop it further. On April 28, participants will return with a draft proposal that will be reviewed by peers for feedback and improvement.

The cost of the workshop is $150, which includes training materials, lunch, and snacks on both days. Members of the Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce will receive a $25 discount. Because class space is limited, participants must register by April 7. To register, visit ndsu.ag/grant-writing26.

This workshop aims to strengthen local communities by helping participants gain the knowledge and confidence needed to pursue grant funding and support meaningful projects.
